What to expect in an acupuncture session…

Acupuncture

When you come for your first treatment, wear loose-fitting clothes. You should not be full from a recent meal nor should you be hungry. The first session will be an hour and a half. The practitioner will discuss your health history with you, conduct an examination, formulate an oriental medicine diagnosis, and perform a treatment specifically designed for your condition. Subsequent sessions, if necessary, will be one hour in length. Acute conditions are typically resolved in a shorter time frame (3-5 visits) than chronic or long-term conditions.

Chinese Acupuncture was developed more than 5,000 years ago as one modality under the scope of what is now called Traditional Oriental Medicine. Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles at specific points on the body in order to influence the physiological functioning o f the body and re-balance the flow of Qi (energy). Similar results can be achieved in the absence of needles by applying manual pressure to acupuncture points. This is called Acupressure.
